AFS India Regional Meet East Zone Member Schools 2025
August 22-24, 2025, two volunteer students of Grade 11, Vridhi Harlalka and Saumyaa Sikaria along with AFS Coordinator Dr. Karabi Das of Royal Global School attended the AFS India Regional Meet East Zone Member Schools at Sai International Residential School Cuttack and Sai International School Bhubaneswar. On arrival, the group proceeded for a visit to Dhauli Shanti Stupa, a historic site symbolizing peace and non-violence.
The day 2 began with the inaugural ceremony, graced by the esteemed Chief Guest Shri Prithviraj Harichandan, Hon’ble Minister of Law, Works and Excise, Government of Orissa. The ceremony also witnessed addresses by Mr. Jayant Lal, Member AFS India Board, Ms. Diya Badgel, National Director AFS India, Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson Sai International School and Ms. Carolina from AFS Global, who shared their powerful reflections on youth leadership and intercultural exchange. Among the two keynote speakers Dr. Swati Mishra, World Skill Center, delivered an insightful address on designing change for peace and planet. Dr. Kaibalya Kumar Sethi engaged the participants in skill development workshops and interactive sessions focusing on SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and highlighted the vital role of young people as change makers, emphasising that their ideas, energy, and compassion can build bridges of peace and protect our planet for generations to come. Their words beautifully resonated with the conference theme, “Global Goals, Local Action,” motivating students to take ownership of a sustainable and harmonious future. The same evening witnessed cultural performances, showcasing traditions and fostering intercultural understanding.
The final day was devoted to community service and reflection. Students visited Munda Sahi village as part of a CSR initiative. They participated in a nukkad natak (street play) on hygiene, interacted with villagers, and contributed to awareness-building efforts. This activity allowed students to experience first-hand how local actions can contribute to global goals.
Finally the Valedictory Session was a fitting finale to an inspiring meet at SIRS. All participating schools and delegates were warmly felicitated with gifts and mementoes as tokens of appreciation. The event concluded with heartfelt words from Mr. Nilakantha Panigrahi, Vice Principal of Sai International School and Amitabh Agnihotri, Headmaster, Sai International Residential School.
The AFS India Regional Meet – East Zone 2025 meet offered a rich blend of hands-on activities, creative thinking, skill development workshops, street play, historical exploration, cultural performances, inspiring talks, and community engagement helped participants to explore the true meaning of the theme and the way to solve the global issues locally along with maintaining culture and heritage of the country.
