Celebrating 150 Years of India’s National Song
A Special Assembly was held this afternoon at the Royal Global School to commemorate a truly momentous occasion which is: The 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram ; one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of India’s freedom and unity, in the presence of our respected Director Sir.
Written in 1875 by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay which first appeared in his first novel Anandamath in 1882 and later popularized by Rabindranath Tagore , who first sang it publicly at the 1986 Indian National Congress Session.
Vande Mataram, meaning “I bow down to thee, Mother”
This song invokes devotion to the motherland and was used to inspire resistance against British Rule, leading to it’s adoption as India’s National Song in 1950.
